The first Luck Cycle begins at an age between 1 and 10, depending on how far your birth date falls from the nearest solar term — specifically Li Chun (立春, Lì Chūn), the beginning of spring, which marks the start of the Chinese zodiac year. The closer you are to Li Chun at birth, the earlier your first cycle begins.
After the first cycle, each subsequent cycle lasts exactly 10 years. You carry one Luck Cycle at a time, moving through them sequentially from birth until old age.

These cycles pressure your Day Master. The element of the cycle either controls your element, or clashes with a pillar in your chart. These periods test you.
What it feels like: Everything requires more effort. Obstacles appear in places that were previously smooth. You may face competition, authority conflicts, health stress, or relationship friction. Nothing comes easily. This does not mean life falls apart — it means the conditions are harder, and the lessons are different.
How to recognize one: When the cycle element controls your Day Master (Officer cycles), or when the cycle clashes with your Month or Year pillar, the period will feel like headwind.
3. Mixed Cycles — Neutral or Complex Combinations
Some cycles combine favorable and challenging elements simultaneously. One area of life improves while another deteriorates. The net outcome depends on which area of life you prioritize during that period.
Examples of mixed cycles:
- Wealth cycle but with a clash — Financial gains but relationship stress. Money comes in but personal connections suffer.
- Resource cycle but with peer competition — Learning and growth are available, but it is hard to stand out or be recognized. The help is there but it does not translate into public wins.

Yang Water is expansive, flowing, and visionary — like an ocean or a rushing river. Water needs Metal (Resource — it is generated by Metal) and Wood (Output — Water feeds Wood, which generates Fire, which produces Earth, which generates Metal, completing the cycle). Water is challenged by Earth (which dams it) and Fire (which evaporates it).

"The cycle tells me what will happen." Luck Cycles describe the energetic conditions, not the specific events. A favorable cycle for Wealth does not guarantee a specific amount of money.
